Privacy Policy
In short: Steps reads your step count and walking distance from Apple Health so it can show your progress. That data stays on your devices. There are no servers, no accounts, no ads and no analytics, so your data never reaches me.
Who I am
Steps is made by Osborne Saldanha (osborne.vc), an individual developer based in India. In this policy, "I" and "me" mean Osborne Saldanha.
What Steps accesses
- Apple Health (only if you allow it): your step count and your walking and running distance. Steps only reads this data. It never writes to Health.
- Settings you choose: your daily goal and whether Apple Health is switched on. These are stored on your device and shared with Steps' own widgets. Your goal and the Health on/off setting are also sent from your iPhone to your paired Apple Watch using Apple's WatchConnectivity.
- A saved copy of today's step count, kept on your device so a widget can still show a number while your phone is locked.
What I collect
Nothing. Steps does not collect, store on a server, or transmit your health data or any other personal information. There are no accounts, no advertising, no tracking, no analytics and no third-party SDKs in the app. I can't see your data.
Sharing
I don't sell, rent, share or transfer your data, and your health data is never used for advertising or data mining.
Apple
If you install Steps through TestFlight or the App Store, Apple handles the download and may collect its own information under Apple's Privacy Policy. If you choose to share app analytics or crash reports with developers in your iOS settings, Apple may pass me aggregated, anonymous reports. These never include your health data.
Your choices
- Turn Apple Health off any time in Steps › Settings. Steps stops reading your data.
- Change or remove access in the iOS Health app › Sharing › Apps › Steps.
- Delete the app to remove its settings and saved step count from your device. Your data in Apple Health stays in Health and under your control.
- Your device backups (iCloud or computer) may include the app's local settings, as set in your Apple account and device settings.
Children
Steps isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
